September 6 is National 401(k) Day!
National 401(k) Day began in 1996 to promote retirement savings education and awareness. It’s celebrated on the first Friday in September so that you can start your week with Labor Day and end your week thinking about retirement.
Have you checked on your nest egg lately? Are you on track to reach your retirement goals? Here are three steps you can take to make sure you’re on track for retirement:
- Participate in the 1% challenge. Increase your contribution amount by 1% at least annually. A $10 to $20 per pay increase can add up to thousands of dollars over time. Be sure you are taking advantage of your company match, if available.
- Review your beneficiary. Make sure you are providing for your loved ones. You may be surprised to find that you’ve never set that up or failed to make a change following an important life event like marriage, divorce, or birth of a child.
- Consolidate old plans. Do you have an account still open in your old employer plan? Consider rolling over to your current retirement plan to consolidate your accounts and better track your savings.
Greenleaf Trust is committed to providing competitive and comprehensive, full-service retirement plans for our participants. Check with your employer to be sure you are taking full advantage or your retirement plan benefits!
