Quick-Take: As we near the Trump Account starting date of July 4, we now have access to an app to assist with opening, funding and managing such an account.

Background: Trump Accounts can be funded starting July 4, 2026. [IRC 530A.] The federal deposit of $1,000 for child-beneficiary of a Trump Account, meaning for those children born between 1/1/2025 and 12/31/2028, will not be deposited to the Trump Account until July 4, 2026.

Trump Account App: As many savers start to gear up to fund a Trump Account, the IRS announced that an app can be used to manage their Trump Account. That app can now be found at major app stores. [IR 2026-68, released May 28, 2026.] The Trump Account app can be found at either Apple App Store or Google Play, starting May 28, 2026. Using this app, a Trump Account owner can submit his/her Trump Account election from and view that election status.

Trump Account Election: The Trump Account election is made using Form 4547. If parents or guardians have previously submitted an election to open and fund a Trump Account (but only after July 4, 2026) they will receive instructions regarding funding via email, from a [email protected], i.e., no phone or text messages will come from Treasury.

Trump Account Activation: Treasury announced that activation emails will be sent out ‘in phases’ before the July 4 start date, again only via email. Instructions in that email will indicate how to set up and activate the Trump Account. Helpful information can also be found at Trump Accounts.gov.

Financial Literacy: Treasury Secretary Bessent (one of my favorite public speakers!) also said that the available app includes six ‘learning pods’ aimed to increase the user’s financial literacy.

Conclusion: The availability of an app created by Treasury should help many who wish to open, fund and manage a Trump Account.
