Greenleaf Trust Marks President’s Day with Second Annual Day of Caring

Kalamazoo, Michigan, February 20, 2017 – The recent President’s Day marked Greenleaf Trust’s second annual Day of Caring. With banks and capital markets officially closed for the holiday, team members were given the option of going to work or volunteering for a community organization of their choice. More than 80 percent of the Greenleaf Trust team chose to participate in one or more of 14 volunteer opportunities in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Birmingham and Northern Michigan.

During their Day of Caring, a strong emphasis was placed on serving the homeless, those needing food support and children. Volunteer activities included making blankets and pillowcases, serving hot meals, raising money, painting, and devoting time to lift the spirits of at-risk or sick children. Among the charities supported were: Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo Neighborhood Housing Services, Ministry with Community, Gospel Mission, Kalamazoo Bach Festival, Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes, Dutton Christian Foundation, Ronald McDonald House and Bijou Theatre.

One Greenleaf Trust team member sums up the Day of Caring as follows: “Being able serve those less fortunate in my community is such a gift. I loved that I was able to choose an organization that is important to me and spend my work day giving back with my team. I’m so thankful that I work for a company that values corporate citizenship and the people in our community.”

Greenleaf Trust’s Day of Caring was founded on the principle that it is better to give than receive. According to President Michael Odar, this is a belief shared by most, if not all, Greenleaf Trust clients, who generously support local charities with their time and resources. Mr. Odar states, “On behalf of my teammates at Greenleaf Trust and the communities we’re privileged to serve, thank you.” Greenleaf Trust teammates look forward to participating in their third annual Day of Caring next year.
